Make a building from the 70s fit for its new usage

Context:

The former HQ of Axa (originally Royale Belge) was set to transform from a mono-functional office building into a vibrant, multifunctional site. This ambitious reinvestment required not only a massive renovation of the physical space but also a complete redesign of user interactions, taking into account the needs of multiple stakeholders and diverse user profiles. The challenge was to rethink flows, accessibility, and services to ensure the site would function efficiently and provide a high-quality user experience.

Task:

To understand the evolving needs of the building’s various occupants and users, mapping different flows (office tenants, visitors, service providers), and translating these requirements into actionable design and operational guidelines. The aim was to coordinate multiple inputs and ensure that the redesign would accommodate both functional efficiency and user satisfaction.

Solution:
We conducted detailed user research, flow mapping, and stakeholder interviews to identify key pain points and opportunities. Based on these insights, we proposed a redesigned operational and spatial layout that optimizes circulation, access control, and shared services. Workshops with stakeholders ensured alignment at every step, resulting in a multifunctional site that balances efficiency, usability, and a compelling user experience for all types of visitors and tenants.
